Terms & Conditions

These terms and conditions apply to all participants who register to take part in the Brighton Pier to
Pier Race 2021.  The organisation and timing of this event shall be under the direct control of the
Brighton Swimming Club (BSC) organisers, and their decision will be final in all matters.

  1. By registering in the event you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.
  2. The minimum entry age is 18 years, on the date of the swim for the Skins, Wetsuit,
    Champions & Challenger swim’s. The minimum age for the under 18’s race is 14 and all
    under 18’s must be accompanied by a responsible adult
  3. You are responsible for reading the information regarding the event contained on the
    website, sent to you by email leading up to the swim, and on the day at the swim location
    site.  You will also attend the safety briefing given by event organisers prior to the start of
    the swim.
  4. The registration fee must be paid at the time of registration. If the event is cancelled by BSC
    (for example, due to bad weather/dangerous conditions) we offer a discount on next year's
    race Cancellations made by the entrant will not be eligible for a refund. If the first date is
    cancelled your ticket then rolls over to the reserve date and if that one is also cancelled it
    will roll over to the third date. If the 3rd date is cancelled that is when the discount is offered
    for the next year's race. No discount is offered if you can't make the 2nd and 3rd reserve
    dates. If the event is cancelled due to covid no discount or refund is available.
  5. If any details provided by you during registration change you must notify BSC immediately
    by e-mailing bscarchcommittee@gmail.com The BSC reserve the right to cancel your
    participation in the event if any information provided by you is found to be inaccurate in any
    way. In these circumstances the entrant will not be eligible for a refund.
  6. All competitors take part entirely at their own risk. Personal accident insurance included
    with Swim England will not apply as this is not a Swim England event.  *However, the event
    fee covers you individually with Blue Response & the BLDSA for this event.
  7. The start will be from the beach.
  8. All Participants acknowledge and agree that there are inherent risks to taking part in a sea swimming challenge. Whilst BSC shall take steps to ensure adequate water safety and medical provision is in place during the event, each participant is responsible for their own actions and safety throughout the entirety of the event, including their arrival through to departure. As this event takes place in a public area BSC cannot be held accountable for any damage caused outside of it’s control. BSC does not provide any insurance, whether life, medical or liability, for any illness, accident, injury, death, loss or damage that may arise in connection with the attendance at and/or participation in the Event. Participants shall be responsible for arranging their own suitable and adequate insurance protection to cover their participation in the Event, please note that this is a BLDSA event and as such Swim England insurance may not be applicable.
    Personal insurance should, without limitation cover:

    1. For material loss/damage to any equipment they may use in the Event or personal property (including clothing);
    2. any loss or damage they may cause to a third party;
    3. sickness; or negligence of any party

9. You agree to photographs and video being taken at the event and that any images of you
may be used by BSC in any media regarding the event, and to market and advertise the
event or any other similar events.
10. BSC is under no obligation whatsoever to process, analyse or otherwise take any action on
any medical information disclosed to it either during or after the registration process for an
Event.
11. Any accident or injury caused by a Participant’s actions shall be the responsibility of that
Participant.
Safety
– All Participants must follow the health and safety instructions and guidelines given by BSC &
their contractors and ensure they check in and out of the swim with BSC and wear their
event swim cap at all times during the swim, failure to do so will result in disqualification
– Any participants who have not finished the swim within 1 hour of their swim commencing
will be disqualified and escorted back to land via by the water safety team.
– The water safety team have final say on safety during the swim and failure to adhere to their
instruction will result in disqualification.
Health and fitness
– Participants who are in any doubt as to their health, fitness or medical conditions which may
be exacerbated by exercise must obtain doctor's approval before taking part in this event.
– BSC is under no obligation whatsoever to process, analyse or otherwise take any action on
any medical information disclosed to it either during or after the registration process for an
Event.
– It is each Participant’s own responsibility to assess their fitness and to ensure that they
participate only if sufficiently fit.

– Should any medical or physical condition arise prior to the Event which is likely to affect a
Participant’s ability to compete in the Event, the Participant should withdraw from the
Event.
–  If the onsite medical team considers anyone unfit to participate due to medical and/or
health reasons, then they will be withdrawn from the swim.
